A magazine published in Excelsior Springs, entitled Super Mind Science Observer, makes statements about Christian Science which evidence an altogether erroneous concept of the teachings of this religion.

Christian Science bases its demonstrable logic on the great fact that God is infinite Spirit or Mind, and that man is created in God's image and likeness, as is stated in the first chapter of Genesis. Man is, therefore, in reality spiritual. The seeming reality of the material body is not lightly brushed aside by the Christian Scientist because of this Biblical teaching, but he does learn, through his study of spiritual realities, that the body is a mortal concept, not constituting the real man. Christian Science teaches how to live above this concept, by giving precedence in thought to "that which is born of the Spirit," God's image and likeness. This is in accord with the admonition of Christ Jesus to "take no thought ... for the body;" also with his declaration, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing." In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 383): "One says: I take good care of my body.' To do this, the pure and exalting influence of the divine Mind on the body is requisite, and the Christian Scientist takes the best care of his body when he leaves it most out of his thought, and like the Apostle Paul, is 'willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.' "

The true Christian Scientist is able to demonstrate God's power in a large degree over sickness and disease through an understanding of spiritual realities; and in consequence of this, longevity is increasingly noticeable among those who adhere to the religion of Christian Science. It is also significant that previous to her discovery of Christian Science Mrs. Eddy was considered to be frail, but that after her discovery, and through her understanding of Christian Science, she lived to the age of eighty-nine years on this earth.
