Under the name of "Truth Seeker," a contributor to the Omaha Daily News writes of "Christian Science, Theosophy, Unitarianism, etc." He briefly states some of his own beliefs, and then classifies as false prophets those who may disagree with him, concluding by admonishing all to search the Scriptures. Lest therefrom there be any misunderstanding on the part of any of your readers regarding the basis of Christian Science, permit me to say that this religion stands squarely on the spiritual truths the Bible contains, as exemplified in the words and works of Christ Jesus. Paul has written, "Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ," with which doctrine Christian Science is in full accord. Our critic is in error in attempting, by inference or direct implication, to relate Christian Science to any religious or other teaching which disavows the divine authority of the words and works of Christ Jesus and the necessity of proving our allegiance to Christ by healing the sick, cleansing the sinners, and raising the dead through spiritual understanding.

Regarding the second coming of Christ, Christian Scientists are not unmindful of the following words from Acts, quoted by our critic: "This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." They believe this statement in its spiritual signification, which is that the Christ will appear to each consciousness prepared to receive the Son of God, just as the Christ has always appeared and ever will appear, and that the proofs of this appearing will be as stated in the forty-second chapter of Isaiah and by Christ Jesus. Further, regarding the nature of the second appearing and whether it is the coming of Christian Science, the following words of Christ Jesus with reference to the Comforter to be sent, when considered with the Master's command to his followers to repeat the works he did, are perfectly plain: "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth. . . . He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you." Our critic has not given the reference in the Christian Science textbook which he has in mind. However, Mrs. Eddy has stated in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 230), with reference to the spiritual healing of sickness and sin in Christian Science: "This awakening is the forever coming of Christ, the advanced appearing of Truth, which casts our error and heals the sick. This is the salvation which comes through God, the divine Principle, Love, as demonstrated by Jesus." Let me add that Christian Scientists heartily unite with all lovers of the Bible in directing attention to the sacred Word. However, when studying the Scriptures, let us not neglect those portions which command the followers of Christ to heal the sick, cleanse the sinner, and raise the dead through spiritual understanding alone.
