Christian Science came to me when very dark clouds...

Christian Science came to me when very dark clouds were around me. I had always believed that God was somewhere, but what or where He was I had utterly failed to solve. I could not understand the terrible suffering that was so prevalent, and my sense of justice must have rebelled, for I ceased to attend church. I then passed through deep waters, and in the midst of them Christian Science was brought to my notice by a dear friend. Its teachings seemed to be true, but after a short study I turned away from it, thinking it something to be attained in another state of existence. Three years later, in a moment of dire distress, when calling on God to help me the answer to my prayer came back to me,—"Christian Science can put all things right for you." I did not hesitate this time, and from that moment my whole outlook on life began to change. Gradually but surely all discordant conditions were straightened out. The way has not been easy and there have been failures as well as victories, but where before there was darkness, now there is light and the sure and certain hope of eternal harmony.

I have always had fairly good health, but stomach trouble and headaches, attacks of which were rather frequent, disappeared soon after commencing to study "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I was instantaneously and permanently healed of smoking, after twenty years' indulgence of the habit, and after many fruitless attempts to destroy this appetite by will power. The taste for alcohol also disappeared soon afterwards. In my home for the past five years God has been our only Physician, and a persistent reliance upon Him has always been sufficient to rout any evil that has tried to gain an entrance. That for which I am most grateful is the regeneration of character which has come to me. Irritability, selfishness, and personal opinion have given way to the correction of divine Love, and their place has been filled by a true love for humanity, a desire to sink self and to serve God.

I am very grateful for the Sentinel and Journal and to all those who send us such loving messages through their columns; also for the Monitor, for to a constant study of its pages I owe a broader outlook upon all matters. We can never repay our loved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for what she has given to us. I shall try to show my gratitude by living a pure life and trying to pass to others what I have myself received.—William V. Collier, Northampton, England.
