Ambassadors

How marvelous is the experience when into the land of personal darkness, doubt, and fear there one day shines the light of Christian Science, dispelling sin and disease and bringing the radiant revelation of the kingdom of God, good, as at hand! How the heart overflows with joy and thanksgiving as a new-found liberty leads our feet into hitherto unknown paths of privilege! Then as the recipient of divine benefits begins earnestly and faithfully to study and understand the divine Principle which has brought health and wholeness to him, he gradually becomes fitted wisely to transmit the blessed message to others, and in due time the "King of kings" summons him to go forth to humanity as an ambassador of heaven. Clothed in humility, crowned with peace, his motto, "Not my will, but thine, be done," he fares forth to fulfil the highest calling and the deepest trust ever conferred upon man.

Now an ambassador is of the highest diplomatic rank, an official messenger whose credentials contain an "assurance that the sovereign by whom he is despatched will approve and confirm whatever is done by the ambassador in his name." Every Christian Scientist needs to ponder deeply this explanation, for it relates most nearly to himself. As a representative from the realm of good, what is the message his sovereign has given him to deliver? Is it not the message of infinite Truth, eternal Life, unselfed Love, a message designed to bring about perfect health, holiness, spirituality? Yes, it is all this, and under no condition is he warranted in delivering any other to humanity. Never should the false messages of worry, poverty, envy, malice, fear, sin, disease, discouragement, and death pass his pen, his lips, his thought. Such an act would be a violation of his trust and would proclaim him a traitor to his king and country. His every word and deed must be able to bear the test of his credentials as above quoted. Such a test faithfully and unselfishly applied in each life will necessarily eliminate many daily experiences which are clearly seen to be devoid of divine authority and therefore illegitimate.

History informs us that the perfect personal security of one invested with this high rank has been from time immemorial an essential and fundamental principle of the law of nations, and that his house and household share his inviolability. Let him who is tempted at any time to fear to deliver the message of Christian Science, remember this assurance. His position as God's ambassador should give him protection against insult, abuse, injury, prosecution, persecution, or destruction. Respect, consideration, and honor are his due, and these he should receive in proportion as he realizes and enters into his ambassadorship. Wonderful examples of this are found in the histories of Joseph and Daniel.
