I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing,...

I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing, nor did I come into it feeling myself spiritually lost. I had graduated through several churches, always seeking truth, and for twenty years I was a Unitarian in thought, worshiping in that church whenever I had the chance. To me it seemed a purer Christianity than I had found elsewhere, but while they taught the fatherhood and motherhood of God and the brotherhood of man, with Jesus as our elder brother and example, it was always a humanly circumscribed concept—never the eternal Christ, forever in the bosom of the Father, and which we might all reflect in varying degrees. It remained for Christian Science to make this clear to me, and for that I owe endless gratitude to the one who brought this truth to our spiritual consciousness and showed us how we may practically demonstrate the same.

I find Christian Science to be a religion of daily life, Immanuel, "God with us" at all times and in all places; that we cannot be separated from God, as we live, move, and have our being in Him. Christian Science makes one conscious of this, and this consciousness is the peace which the world cannot give or take away. I thank God for bringing me into Christian Science, and I am very grateful to all those who have so lovingly helped me step by step from sense to Soul. My great desire is to get nearer to God by whatever earthly experiences I may be led.

Though I did not come to Christian Science for healing, I was healed, very soon after taking up the study of Science and Health, of influenza and a terrible mental disturbance which accompanied it. This might have been the impurities coming to the surface of which Mrs. Eddy speaks as "fermentation" (Science and Health, p. 401), and many minor demonstrations over error are being made all the time. If I had needed to be convinced of the truth of the Christhealing, I had it in the case of one whom I had been enabled to lead into Christian Science and who was daily and hourly under my observation. She was healed instantaneously, through a practitioner, before she understood much of Christian Science, of a life-long bowel trouble, which physician after physician had treated without avail. This person is upward of seventy and has remained free from that burden for more than two years, never needing any medicine or using any material means whatever. She knows and acknowledges with the deepest gratitude her debt to Christian Science, as explained to her by those who have so lovingly helped her to realize its power.
