Our little boy was taken down with scarlet fever one day...
Our little boy was taken down with scarlet fever one day last winter. At two in the afternoon a physician said the case was serious and was complicated with a severe ulcerated sore throat. At seven o'clock that same evening, through the reflection of divine Love, as taught by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, every sign of disease had vanished. Later, his little sister had the same disease, and she was cured in one hour. These are only two out of many, many healings in our family. Neither of the children has ever had a drop of medicine, and all the pains and aches which are wont to befall little ones have been met and overcome in Christian Science. For this, for the spiritual peace, for improved conditions in business, and for the ability to help others, all Christian Scientists rejoice, and they continually send their love and gratitude to our revered Leader for her life which has made possible our joy.
Carl H. Pierce, New York, N. Y.
All through my earlier life I was considered delicate and subject to many physical disorders. In August, 1896, my husband passed on, and for a long time, in my loneliness, I longed for death. One day a dear friend brought me a book on so-called mental science and insisted that it would help me if I would only read it. I seized it as a drowning man would a straw, and studied it faithfully for six years. At this time I was taken down with nervous prostration and could get no help from my study. I lay on my bed praying to be led in the right way. One day I asked my nurse to call up an old friend who was studying Christian Science, and ask her to come to see me. She came to me, full of love, and advised me to try Christian Science. I consented, and through the loving help of a practitioner I was soon on my feet again. I had once owned a copy of Science and Health, but I was not then ready for it. I now borrowed a copy of the book for a few days, until I felt that I was ready to study it in earnest. I then bought a copy of my own, and if I could not get another there is not money enough to buy the one I hold so dear; it is my daily companion. When I was able to go to church again, I went to First Church of Christ, Scientist. There I found such a sweet sense of peace that I felt I had at last found a church home. I am a member of our home church and of The Mother Church, and now, after two and a half years of faithful study, I feel that I have a God who will never forsake me. I have had many beautiful demonstrations over physical ailments, both for myself and my family. I thank God every day for our beloved Leader, who has consecrated her life to the Cause of Christian Science, also that He has placed me where it is possible to learn this wonderful truth.—Emma Palmer Hotchkin, Chicago, III.
