I had heard of Christian Science several years ago, but...
I had heard of Christian Science several years ago, but although I was ailing at the time, I never thought to try it for myself. I had gone through an operation nine years before, and was never well after it. The two years following this operation seemed very bad indeed, for three weeks out of four were spent in bed. The doctors could not do anything for me. They finally declared I had heart trouble, which was considered incurable. My trouble growing worse, the family sent me abroad, hoping the change would do some good, but I came back feeling worse than when I left. The fear of appendicitis dogged my every footstep all the way through Europe, so when I came home I felt worse than ever before.
It was then that I heard of a friend's cure through Christian Science. She had tried everything the doctors could think of, but nothing had helped, and I thought if she could be cured, surely it would help me too. She introduced me to a practitioner, and I was completely cured in four treatments. I cannot describe the feeling of relief and joy that came over me when I first realized what it means to be God's child. I saw that I need have no more fear. I felt as if I must tell everybody about my great happiness. That was five months ago, and I have studied hard ever since, trying to understand more of this blessed truth that makes us all so gloriously free. I had been an atheist all my life, though I had always looked for some religion, I knew not what, and when Christian Science was explained to me I knew instantly that this was the religion for which I had been seeking so long. It is getting to be the greatest blessing to me as I grow in understanding. With a heart full of love I am grateful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for this grand truth.—Helen Bode, Milwaukee, Wis.
