Joining the Church

How many of us stop to realize the true significance of uniting ourselves with the church? Some people say, "I do not believe in organizations and do not like to bind myself to anything." Is this step truly bondage? Not when we look at it in its true light.

In Science and Health, p. 583, we find the spiritual interpretation of Church: "The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle." Then when we unite with this are we not uniting ourselves with all that is highest and purest and best? Is it not possessing ourselves of absolute freedom instead of bondage?

To look upon the church as a material structure where people congregate at stated times, and never beyond it to that of which this is but a type, is like looking at the suffering, erring human body and believing to be man—the true child of God.
