In passing along one of Chicago's busiest thoroughfares...
In passing along one of Chicago's busiest thoroughfares recently, my attention was drawn towards a gathering of men and boys, who were watching, and some of the boys jeering, a man who was badly intoxicated, and talking incoherently.
I at once stopped, away from the crowd, and began my work as a Scientist, declaring for my erring brother, an environment of sobriety, kindness, strength, and sympathy. He soon attempted to walk along, leaning against a building, but after a few steps sank to his knees. He was assisted to rise, and resumed a resting position against the same building. Error seemed to have him, and most of the surrounding crowd in its grasp, but I knew that Truth is divine, and all-powerful, and continued my declarations of denial, with the realization of God's allness and ever-presence to help and bless.
Very soon the man made another effort to walk, and although shaky and a little unsteady at first, he soon passed me, crossed a busy street unassisted, and walked away without staggering. I offered a few encouraging words as he passed me, and in my heart of hearts prayed that his relief might be permanent.
