The Song of Hiawatha
A few days ago I was telling some little children the story of "Hiawatha." After hearing of his love for the birds and how he talked with the squirrels and rabbits and called them his brothers, one little girl said: "But why do not the birds come to me? Why do they fly away? I love them: I would not hurt them." I answered, "Because they do not know you are good and gentle; if they knew you they would not be afraid."
This brought to me a very clear realization that as we come to know God as omnipresent Love, no fear or doubt can separate us from Him, for we shall feel perfectly safe in the conciousness of His presence.
