The Lectures
The semi-annual free lecture of Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist, New York City, was given in the church auditorium on Friday evening, May 16, by Carol Norton, C.S.D., of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship, of the Mother Church, Boston. The lecture, entitled, "Christian Science is Applied Christianity," received very close attention from a representative West Side audience.
W. D. McCrackan, Christian Science Publication Committee for the State of New York, introduced the lecturer and spoke, in part, as follows:—
"The world is full of people who need help. Most of them are suffering from mental, moral, or physical troubles of one kind or another. Some are involved in the meshes of business or professional difficulties. Othes are merely disappointed because they have been seeking the solution of social, economic, and political problems along material lines. Some have been led into unprofitable thinking by philosophical speculations or false so-called sciences. Others have been led astray by the desire to be great in their own name. Some are enslaved by bad habits. Others are appalled at the possibilities of evil which have been uncovered to them in their human experiences. Many are suffering from diseases of various sorts, chronic or acute; organic or inorganic; and all men long to be freed from the fears, doubts, and anxieties which beset their path and breed sin, sickness, and death.
