Among the Churches
The work of remodeling and enlarging the church building of the Second Church of Christ, Scientist, of Houston, Texas, located on Main Street, between McKinney and Lamar Avenues, has been completed and the church turned over to the congregation, and the first services will be held therein to-day. The morning service will be held at eleven o'clock, and the evening service at eight o'clock.
The seating capacity has been increased to about three times that of the old building, which became necessary on account of the rapid growth of the attendance at this church.
On September 4, 1898, this congregation held their first service in a small building erected for them on the present site, but the rapid growth soon filled the building, and for some months it was apparent that larger quarters must be arranged for. Accordingly, arrangement was made for additional land, and contract let for the enlargement of the building, which is now completed and turned over to the building committee.
