The prayer that heals
Prayer is not a filibuster or a function of time.
It is gaining that precious peace of mind
where . . .
I don’t let fear get the better of me—
like Daniel’s calm in the presence of the beasts;
I know God’s light will enlighten me—
like the pillar of fire that went before Moses;
I know God’s angels are holding me up—
like the angel in the furnace at Shadrach’s side;
I am confident of victory before it comes—
like David who knew the giant would succumb;
When do I know I’ve arrived at this place?
I will know I am there when in confident trust . . .
I feel God’s love embracing me—
like Jacob, who saw the angels descend;
I’m expectant to hear my Father’s voice—
like Samuel, who listened for God to call;
I am humble enough to change my ways—
like Paul, who let Christ set him straight;
I am inspired to see that I walk with God—
like Jesus, who said he was one with Him.
When I’m open enough to feel this way,
then I, like Elijah, will surely know . . .
Neither earthquake, wind, nor mighty fire
can keep me from hearing that still, small voice—
God’s angel—that awakens me from the dream
and holds me in His secret place,
while gently ministering and softly saying,
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant:
thou hast been faithful over a few things,
I will make thee ruler over many things:
enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:21
