The real “El Camino Real”

I’m unimpressed with the carnal mind’s constant refrain:
“For joys, along the highways and byways of material life, remain.”

Rather, I’m persuaded, as was my friend Paul,
That I’m inseparable from the love of God throughout the way where I’ve been called.

Should the way seem dark and drear or shrouded by the fog of fear,
Christ’s “Peace, be still” I will hear, and know the lighted path of God, ever here and near.

If beset at times by storms or words less than kind,
I can, with unwearied step, pursue the way of Life divine, and “with growing brightness shine.” Isaac Watts, Christian Science Hymnal, No. 320

When the liar seems to obstruct the path or spoil the day,
I’m heartened by God’s call “This is the way,” and move within Soul’s glorious rays.

To follow the Master’s command that in his pathway we should tread,
Is the holy way, God’s way, in which I’ve been led.
