Teach me to be a window, Lord

The manifestation of God through mortals is as light passing through the window-pane. The light and the glass never mingle, but as matter, the glass is less opaque than the walls. The mortal mind through which Truth appears most vividly is that one which has lost much materiality—much error—in order to become a better transparency for Truth.

—Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 295

Teach me to be a window, Lord,
a place where light shines through.
Show me with eternal light
the truth that shines anew.

Keep me free from rivalry,
the darkening of sin.
Clean my panes with purity
that makes us one again.

Let me feel Your healing love,
which never fails, obscures.
For in Your light will we see light
that lifts and saves and cures.

O let me be transparent,
undimmed by mortal flaws.
And let me daily shine and gleam,
obedient to Your laws.

Teach me to be a window, Lord,
because I know from You
that when I think less of myself,
Your radiance shines through.
