The tiles of many colors

A couple of years ago, I was sitting in the gracious shade of a grove of cottonwood trees in the park. I love the gentle clapping sounds cottonwood leaves make, as well as their little fluffy seeds that softly touch down as they fall.

I was touched, literally and figuratively, by those little cotton seeds. Their beauty and loveliness reminded me of Mary Baker Eddy’s definition of angels: “God’s thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 581). I needed an angel message that day.

I’d recently ended a relationship with my boyfriend of almost a year because I was interested in marriage and perhaps children, and he was not. Feeling as though I was still in love with him, I was experiencing a terrible heartache.
