The divine care that quenches drought
The drought in evidence across a large part of the United States has given rise to gloomy predictions for the crops, the economy, and the consumer. But these predictions leave out an important fact: God is still caring for each of us, supplying us with all good, regardless of material conditions. As Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, wrote in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need” (p. 494). Can we trust that? Yes!
God is in control of His own creation. And the supposition that the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-acting, infinite divine Love’s total care for His children can be usurped by too few or too many clouds and raindrops misses the real picture.
How do we cope with a serious lack of water? Instead of looking to material elements for our prospects, we look to God, the source of all good. The Bible records an instance when, during a great need for water, Moses turned to God for guidance, and water flowed from a rock (see Numbers 20:11). It’s tempting to label this a “miracle,” but we can be assured that such things are actually the natural adjusting of circumstances, which comes with trusting God to meet our every need.
