Gifts that touch the heart
Originally appeared on spirituality.com
It was time to start thinking about Christmas gifts again. I wasn’t very proud of the way I’d handled the whole thing the year before. True, I hadn’t had much of a budget to work with. But even so, I’d basically tried to find something that “would do” just so I could cross another name off the list. It had been pretty uninspired.
This particular year I had resolved to do better. I made a pact with myself that I would try to find something for each individual that would be truly meaningful, something that would touch each heart. I love to pray, and since my source of inspiration comes from God, Spirit, I thought Why not turn to Him for guidance about how to be more loving, thoughtful, and creative? I began to think of each gift, not so much as a “thing,” but as an idea from Mind, God.
Mary Baker Eddy’s textbook on Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, illuminates this concept. It states, “Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul. These ideas are perfectly real and tangible to spiritual consciousness, and they have this advantage over the objects and thoughts of material sense, — they are good and eternal.”
