A few years after I graduated from college with a theatre degree, my best friend and I decided to pursue professional acting work. We wrote a play and decided to move to Sydney, New South Wales, where we felt there were more opportunities to perform our work and to make a living from it.

I quit my teaching job, packed up all my belongings and moved interstate. My friend was to follow me. We had told all of our friends about our plan. It was very exciting.
