Prayer for the judiciary

When I was growing up, my dad often talked to me about wisdom, and I resented this. It wasn’t that I didn’t value wisdom—rather, I felt I didn’t have any.

When I learned that wisdom could be asked for in prayer, even claimed as belonging to me, I was delighted. And it’s true—through prayer, anyone can discover innate wisdom and find it in others.

Many today are thinking about, and praying for, the United States’ judicial system as the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court begins his term. Wisdom, not ideology or partisanship, is vital to the intelligent administration of justice, so it is an essential quality in this work. While the Supreme Court justices are especially high-profile individuals in the United States, people everywhere can pray for judges who are just and wise in their interpretation of the law.
