Happiness: A quest into the unknown or a present reality?

Lois Carlson, C.S.B.

“Happiness is a word about recognizing every sign of today’s good, while joy is that bigger concept that includes how God will work in our lives over the longer term,” says Lois Carlson, a teacher and practitioner of Christian Science from Chicago, Illinois. Lois answers questions about how to maintain freshness in the midst of daily routines, to deal with family pressures, and relatives who are negative or dissatisfied. Listeners ask questions about lives that they describe as “a mess,” how to move past disappointment and vulnerability, and how to pray about world problems such as violence, economic instability, and conditions where millions of people are starving. Lois explains that it’s important to recognize happiness daily because if we neglect to do this, it will tend to make us always look to the future for good and end up denying the presence of God in our lives today.
