If I Could

If I could call my thoughts to me,And read them over with the prayer,That I might justly judge and seeIf all these thoughts were true and fair;If I could call my thoughts, and then,Could read each slowly, one by one,I wonder if I once againWould send them out as I have done.

No Little Things

There are no little things; the slightest word,Unkind and thoughtless, whispered, scarcely heard,Has in its way a mighty current stirred,And as it passes loud and louder rings.

Consider the Lilies

Clouds have closed o'er sombre skyTimes full many I trow,And the darker the cloud the richer the storeof rains that have fallen below; But I never knew the smallest treeOr the humblest flower complain,While the buds all silently, strangely grew,Waiting, no hour in vain:Till the sun shone out some blessed morn,And then were the wonderful blossoms born.

The Power of Truth

Over the desert land afar,Three wise men followed a glittering starTill it stood overhead where a young child layWith eyes just open to earthly day;Offering their gifts of frankincenseAnd gold and myrrh they departed hence:And thus was all wisdom's homage laidAt the feet of a humble little babe.

My Garden of Thought

I HAD a garden beautifulFilled with the fairest flowers,But ugly weeds had grown there,In thoughtless, idle hours.

From Church

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

Peace, Be Still!

AND as they sailed across the lake,Dark grew the midnight sky!A mighty storm tossed the frail boat,The waves rolled mountain high.

Rising with Christ

Born to a higher sense of Life,Out of the turmoil, din, and strife,Into a harmony, sweet and grand;Led by the Father's unerring hand,Rising with Christ to victory.

An Easter Song

O, joy that fills the world with song,O, Resurrection Day.

As Dawn Begins

As dawn begins to dart its rose,To see the tomb sad Mary goes,Wherein lies one who, from a tomb,Erstwhile called Lazarus out of gloom.

Easter Morn

Gently thou beckonest from the giant hills,     And new-born beauty in the emerald sky,And wakening murmurs from the drowsy rills,     O gladsome dayspring! reft of mortal sigh—To glorify all time—eternity—With thy still fathomless Christ-majesty.
O Happy , joyous Easter, we welcome thee once more!Through Christ, our risen Saviour, the night of death is o'er.
