The Ageless Song

From topmost boughs of ancient trees a layOf liquid music, flowing melody,Poured forth from dawn to hush at close of day,Filling the air with joy and harmony.

Floral Apostles*

When in our thoughts sweet flowers bloomThey make green gardens out of sorrow grow,And banish gloom.

Unity

I have one all-inclusive duty—one,And only one: to testify of Thee.

Security

As Jesus stole into the quiet reachesWhere no strident surging of the multitudeCould penetrate; So shall my faith, in quietness and confidence,Retreat from hate,Wrapped in the royalty of sonship.

Feed the Hungry

Oft of an evening all the silent skiesSpread out their dark blue awning overhead,And heaven's big inquisitive bright eyes,Like golden spiders on an unseen thread,Draw nearer earth to view the works of men,And seeing how the passing hours are spedIn sleep or labor, giving or in gain,Return to heaven with the dawn again.

The Ascent

The Christ is climbing by the hill,We hear the children cry;And we must go, whate'er we know,To see the Christ go by.

Redemption

When shadows fell across CapernaumAnd peace lay gently on the fragrant air,Came one who knew the time of rest was nearAnd sat him down for meat in Simon's house,Where, as he slowly supped, there fell a stirOf wonder, and a pause.
O Lord , hear Thy servant!Day and night he calleth to Thee that he may find Thee, for Thouart ever present.

Interlude

Man , the most precious image of his God,His being for immortal glory wrought,Yet seems to mortal sense sprung from the clod,Robed in earth's clouding mists of erring thought.

Undimmed

It is a night hung dark with clouds; But let a wind ariseTo blow away the storm,And lo, in steadfast calmWill march the StarsAs they are marching even nowUpon their radiant way,Shining—undimmedAbove the storm-bound world.

The Awakening

How helpless was I once, the prey of error,Pursued by fear;Dark pictures drove me into states of terrorLike hounds the deer.
