Thy Gifts

This prayer is mine—A love forgiving, faithful, pure, divine.

Omnipresent Love

To-day the Father's care encircles me,And I may everywhere reflected seeHis perfect image; wheresoe'er I goMay all the day His kind protection know,May find in friendly smile or swift caressA sweet reminder of His tenderness;May sense, perhaps, beneath a lofty skyHow closely in His gentle arms we lie,When shyly some small woodsy thing shall glideAcross a lonely path at eventide;Or glancing up, I'll chance perhaps to seeThe inky black of silhouetted treeAgainst a flaming sunset's afterglow,And something of His boundless glory know.

The Humble Tasks

Help me, O Lord, the humble tasks to do;Give me to serve Thee with my thought each day,So joyously that as I bake or sweep,My light may shine to those along the way.
Gentle presence, Thou art with me! Let me feel Thy peace,From the clamor of earth's turmoil Bringing sweet release.

Pentecost

Thou living light of pentecostal glory,Lo! wide we fling our hampering doors of clay; Thy cleansing fires pour through us we implore Thee,To purge and sanctify our hearts to-day.

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

LAZARUS

And I knew that thou hearest me always! Thus spake the blessed Master as he stoodBefore the silent tomb of him he loved,Amid the weeping women and the menAssembled there in mourning for the dead.

Fulfillment

Beneath a weary burden bending low—A burden seeming more than men can bear,Of sin and grief and earth's unending woe—Bowed by its heavy weight of ceaseless care,Upon the shore of earth's deep, troubled sea,A mortal sinks in silent misery.

Omnipresence

Dear God, I know he walks in vainWho seeks to walk apart from Thee.

The Quest

City of God! Lo, here, on high white summit?

Watch

Watch every thought that it may leadAway from mortal strife,Away from earthly cares and greedTo Love and Truth and Life.

The Little Prayer

As I lingered for a moment by the door,And overheard the baby's prayerWhispered to imploreOur Father's blessing, all the airSeemed filled with fragrance—just as thoughA bud had soft unfolded thereOn some rare stem which only angels know.
