From Church

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

Faith

Be thou content with one step at a time And, seeing it, walk thou the way God leads; He will make plain the purpose of His plan; Doubt not that He will furnish all thy needs.

A Prayer

Dear God, before Thee here I meekly bow,And pray that Thou wouldst teach me humbleness.

A loving look, a word of truth, And lo! the Christ is there, Bringing a sense of harmony, Divine, beyond compare.

Holy Days

You need not leave the grandeur of the hills, Returning to the city's crowded streets; The majesty of Spirit ever fills The heart that each new day with courage greets.

"A little coat"

O tender mother-love! We like to markHow the child Samuel served in deed and thought,Tending the glowing flame before the ark,Wearing the coat his mother's hands had wrought.

Trust

How little children, free from every qualmOf carking care, to happy rest time yield,Content with that day's joy, serenely calm;Nor strive to know their parents' thought will shieldAnd keep their children with unloosening hold;Enriched by ceaseless wealth of careful loveAnd sure providing, safe as in a foldThe lambs unheedful rest, or as the doveIn its wood nest secure! So clouds of fearHave never dimmed the child's sweet heaven of peace,Or stirred a dread he might become less dear,Nor roused a wondering thought if love could cease.

Before We Call

Before we call He answers,And while we speak He hears; Our faintest supplicationRises to listening ears.

Thankfulness

He came to Bethany to wake his friend;Deep gloom was there.

God Is Everywhere

God is everywhere;I know it from the bird's glad singing,And from the dewdropsSo closely to the blossoms clinging.

Love

'Tis Love distills the sparkling dewOn herb and tender flower,And tints the sky in rainbow hueAfter the summer shower.
