The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

Truth Conquers All

Should fear and doubt assail my thoughtTo hold me in their power,I'll turn me to the God of hosts,For He is my strong tower.

Christ, the Comforter

Once the mourning Mary wentEarly, in the dawn,To the tomb of Jesus—rent,And the rock withdrawn.

Substance Eternal

As dawn so surely brings to lightThe dear, familiar thingsThat perish not although the nightEnfold them 'neath her wings,So nought of substance or of life,In God's majestic scheme,Is lost in self-destroying strife,Or touched by error's dream.

Resurrection

To mortal sense, fierce was the storm,Black was the night, and cold the tombWherein was laid the earthly formOf him whose presence made each roomA court of heaven.

Kindness

If every little word I'd sayI'd measure carefully today,I wouldn't say a thing unkindTo anyone, nor would I mindA hasty word that someone mayExpress to me, because I'd findThat I'd forgive and knowIt could not hurt; and so,Let us then weigh each little word,And be just like the joyous bird,Who sings his song, in spite of weather.

Testimony

Father , I wait amid the silent throng,My heart replete with gratitude and praiseThat my true selfhood doth to Thee belong,And by the power of Spirit Thou didst raise

A Prayer for Today

Keep me close to Thee, my Father,   Keep my ear attuned to Thee.

Resurrection

When they beheld the rock-hewn bedWhereon the Master lay,I think they went with anguished heartsTo keep sad watch and pray.

Healing

How quietly the dewRests upon each flower! His Word is touching heartsAs gently this hour,As softly, as the dew,But vibrant with power.
