Leaning on God

When all material aid is gone,With only God to lean upon,Expectantly to carry onWill bring release.

Afterglow

When strength ran low andNights were starlessAnd the sunlight dim; When even bird songs seemed to comeIn far-off minor notes,In prayer I humbly turned to Thee.

From Overcoming grief

What death does not do

We go on gaining moment by moment in the understanding that God is the only real Life.

Grace Before Service

For what we now are to receive, dear Lord—The soaring Psalms, the melody of praise,The message that has fed us seven days,Transcribed from page to heart, pure word by word,The blessed silence and the faith restoredBy draughts of prayer that satisfy always—For all of these and so much more that staysOur hunger, Lord, our thanks for this Thy board.

Emergence

Now that your tears are spentAnd only this dark weight of grief remainsUncomforted by tender word or offered hand,And solace seems an alien tongue,Turn thought to God.

The Dawn

Before the dawn began to glowAcross the barren fields of fear,There was no light or song to cheer,Nor sage to tell you how to go,Nor chart to mark a friend from foe.

This Hour

I put my hand in His,And as I go my wayI prayThat, whatsoever thingI do or say,So much of LoveI may reflectThat confidence will banish fear,Evil lose its claim to power,As joyously I walk with HimToday,This very hour.

From Conquering hate, enthroning peace

Love's triumph over hate

How can we love when others hate? Prayerful turning to God, divine Love, with the earnest desire to express His qualities under all circumstances will give us strength and ability to do right.

I Shall Keep My Joy

I shall keep my joy as a gladsome birdThat nests in the heart of me;At the red of dawn ere the lark is heardIt will sing in exuberant glee,     For joy is highest praise expressed—     The rhythm of Spirit made manifest.

On Upward Wing

The aviator points his planeFor lofty flight through clouds and rain;A gray, forbidding sky is spreadAcross that pathless space ahead,And bitter blasts with savage stingsBeat on his upward-soaring wings.

Today

This is the day the Lord has made;In it be glad and knowThat all of good is here and now.

Achievement

Would you reach the sovereign height?

Unity

When in my heartI find the Golden RuleAnd use it,I have expressed my Godlikeness,And realized in some degreeMan's unity with God;And I am grateful.

Morning Thought

Mind-directed, Life-protected,I go on my way.
