Poems

"They shall not build," and lose the promiseOf an habitation strong;Nor shall they plant, and lose the harvestsThat to faithful hands belong; But they shall build, and then inhabit;Great shall be their peace, and long; And they shall plant, and gather richly; They shall harvest with a song.

Mary Baker Eddy

A GENTLE woman, and divinely wise,She bore the eternal light through praise or blame,And to the folded hearts of men there cameA burning brightness loosening earthly ties;Vision and hope she brought to weary eyes,And by the power of Love restored the lame.

A Morning Blessing

May God, who gave you to me for a friendReveal Himself to youMore fully, and all earth-torn fissures mendBetter than we could do;While on His Word alone shall each depend,And every dawn anewOn swift white wings of prayer a blessing send,Purer than dew; That in His love our lives unseen may blendAnd, daily, closer, through His life ascend,As Truth's bright rays our outward days defendFrom aught that love could rue;So that the joy enfolding us may lendJoy to the whole world too,Till, ripened in the Love which knows no endAll ages through,We dwell in that high secret place, my friend,Love always knew!

Prayer

To pray is to aspire to holy thought,To hold to things by mortal eye unseen,To hush the voice of sense and calmly waitFor that which prophets hear, the "still small voice.
How good to know that in the lucent heightAnd splendor of His presence we remainOne with that beauty of supernal lightInviolate, where darkness, sin, and painLike clouds before the dawn of day disperse —One with the God-created universe,

Rest

"Come unto me," the loving words fell softly,"Come unto me,.

Love's Recompense

Be not discouraged! Love divine,The sun of peace, will surely shineUpon your life, and bring the restWhich work well done at Love's behestMust always bring.

Love

How deep Love is!So deep that if brother's grief or sinShould seem unfathomed,Love's depth would fold him inThe everlasting arms thatUnderneath are strongly tender.
