In the Christian Science Bible Lesson

Human Affection

That the ministry of Jesus was one of steadily increasing compassion, affection, and love is acknowledged; the world, however, has given but spasmodic heed to the example he left for it to follow and has thereby missed the full import of his "new commandment": "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Work

Any kind of work, as defined by Christian Science, is spiritually joyous activity, with no sense of burden or fatigue.

"I will repay"

Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Self

It will be remembered that when the mission of Moses was about to commence, he sought to fortify himself in authority by asking the question, "Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name?

Certainty

When Moses, searching for the definition of God which would give most authority to his message to the children of Israel, turned to Mind, the answer came: "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

An Association of Nations

Political thought, commonly supposed to be divorced from metaphysics, has recently shown a tendency to realize that every step forward in human progress must of necessity be worked out inch by inch as the way unfolds, and such progress will not take place unless the preliminary work has been done strictly in accordance with Principle.

"The Lord whom ye seek"

Through a variety of modes and methods that exceeds the Babel of tongues, the history of individuals and mankind reveals a search for God, the Principle of all being.

Digging Deep

In Luke's gospel, Jesus is reported as saying to his students, "Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: he is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

On Asking Advice

Centuries before the Christian era, Jeremiah prophesied: "After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

The Rod and the Serpent

We read in the fourth chapter of Exodus that when Moses held a material rod in his hand—which was apparently a symbol of spiritual power—God bade him cast it on the ground, and the rod became a serpent.
