An article dated at New York City and entitled "Medical Magic Still Believed," appeared in your paper recently, and in the discussion was this statement: "What else is all this but another application of the power of a stronger mind over a weaker one, as taught by our Christian Science friends?
Many of your readers may wonder why one whose profession is to preach the saving power of the Christ, should make the statement that "there never can be a Christian Science church because Christ is not there," notwithstanding the generally recognized fact that Christian Science is not only preaching the gospel and regenerating the sinner, but is also healing the sick—actually exhibiting the "signs" which Jesus declared should "follow them that believe.
Manifestly our critic is totally unaware of the fact that in Christian Science physical healing is an incident naturally resulting from the operation in human consciousness of the understanding of divine Mind, or God.
Christian Science arouses its students from their sense of suffering and breaks up their evil desires and pursuits.
A correspondent in speaking of my reply to a former criticism says, "I cannot understand why he and others are not willing that the teachings of Christian Science shall stand on their merits and not be propped up by misinterpretations of the teachings of Christ.
It has been considered worth reporting that an evangelist said that a Christian Scientist would only do some talking to a man in search of a satisfying gospel "and leave the poor devil right where he was.
