Revelation: God's communication to mankind

The word revelation conjures up strange images for many people. They associate revelation with ancient religious history or dreamy mysticism or idealistic fantasy. But one who studies the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, finds that revelation can have a contemporary and very down-to earth place in his life. Today, as in Biblical times, the revelation of God's truth to individuals is bringing long-sought guidance, peace, and even physical healing. Perhaps it's time to take a deeper look at revelation.

Revelation is not a matter of climbing the nearest mountain and closing your eyes in serene contemplation of otherworldly phenomena. Revelation is God's communication to mankind. It is the truth of being—of God's allness and supremacy and man's likeness to God—as revealed in the Bible and to Mrs. Eddy through her discovery of Christian Science. The revealed truths of Christian Science are the same eternal truths Christ Jesus taught and practiced. The ability to understand and demonstrate this revelation is constantly available to each of us.

An event recorded in the Bible shows the availability and practicality of revelation. A woman and her young son found themselves stranded in a desert with their water supply exhausted. The mother placed her son under a bush and walked away, because she could not bear to watch him die. Then she cried out in desperation.
