My first testimony appeared in the April 10, 1954, issue of the Christian Science Sentinel. Now an octogenarian, and still enjoying good health and freedom through practice of the glorious teachings of Christian Science, I feel it is time I once again express my gratitude in writing.

During the First World War, my brother, who was traveling by boat to France, witnessed boxes of Christian Science literature being thrown into the sea. Being curious, he picked out some of the literature before it was thrown overboard, read it, and soon discovered its value. When he arrived in France, he bought a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

On his return from the war, my brother introduced me to Science. When I began my study of Science and Health, I found it difficult to put the book down! And I was healed of a severe nervous condition and headaches in a short time. Since then, four generations of my family have followed the teachings of Christian Science. Over the years we've had many healings, including a number involving broken bones. These words of Mrs. Eddy's were most helpful (Science and Health, p. 423): "Bones have only the substance of thought which forms them."
