In the Glossary definition of Jerusalem in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 589), "home" is associated with "heaven." My wife and I married during the 1930s Depression. Our income after five years was still so limited that it seemed hopeless even to look for a home of our own—though the rented accommodation we had was really inadequate as a place to bring up our two young daughters.

The Christian Science Monitor was instrumental in leading us to our first home. I had consistently subscribed to the Monitor during those five years, and one day the religious article in a March issue roused and inspired me. It told of a woman, who, after having great abundance, suddenly found herself homeless and nearly destitute. A student of Christian Science, she at length awoke to thank God for the home she knew Love had already provided. Then after many months of prayer and study—during which self-pity and grief sufficiently dissolved—the healing appeared, and like Job, she had more than before.

Upon reading this, I exclaimed, "That's the way I must go!" and I began to thank God daily for the home divine Love was already providing us. My wife was not yet a Christian Scientist, but she was supportive of my prayerful efforts.
