Stomach problem healed

I want to express my profound gratitude for Christian Science practitioners, who devote themselves so selflessly to helping others through prayer. A few years ago, early one morning, I found myself suffering from what appeared to be the effects of food poisoning. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help since I was having trouble praying for myself because of the intense pain.

The first thing she told me was that I wasn’t going to “fall” for this. She was alluding to the subject of that week’s Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly—“Adam and Fallen Man.” This proved to be a turning point in my thought, because her words reminded me that this problem was a deception, not the truth of my being.

I was also especially helped by two passages from the Lesson, which I had been studying. They were both from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. One was, “Whatever indicates the fall of man or the opposite of God or God’s absence, is the Adam-dream, which is neither Mind nor man, for it is not begotten of the Father” (p. 282). The other passage included these words: “… man in God’s image is unfallen and eternal” (p. 476). The practitioner went on to reassure me that I knew who I really was—a spiritual idea of God, filled with joy in reflecting Him. Then she told me she would pray for me.
