The Mind that heals
Christian Science is known as a system that heals mentally, through prayer—through Christian Science treatment. This treatment heals by destroying the fears and material misconceptions in human thought that objectify themselves as disease.
Sometimes this is thought to mean that Christian Science healing is “mind over matter.” But this misses the main fact of Christian Science, that healing comes through the power of God, who is the one infinite divine Mind. Not through the human mind, but through the divine Mind, is healing found.
Here’s a simple way to think of it. If you walk into a dark room on a sunny day—a room in which all the shades are pulled down over the windows—and lift even one of the shades, there will be much more light in the room. But did the lifting of the shade brighten the room? Not exactly. Lifting the shade was necessary, because it allowed the light to come in. But it was the sun outside, pouring its rays into the room, that actually brightened the room. If you had lifted the shade at night, no light would have come in. The source and cause of the brightening was the sun.
