Lump in breast healed
About 25 years ago, I noticed a sizable lump on the side of my breast. I became alarmed because talk of breast cancer was often in news reports, with dire warnings and persistent urgings to be tested for it.
I began to pray. As I had been taught in Sunday School at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and in Christian Science class instruction, I was defending my thinking against the insistent worry that I could be the helpless victim of disease.
In the prayer that is Christian Science treatment, the first step is to address fear—to overcome false beliefs that sometimes dominate our thinking. With this step, we naturally turn to God—immortal Truth, Life, and Love. Discerning God’s, Spirit’s, all-good nature and our likeness to Him as His creation releases us from fixation on material elements and symptoms. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, affirms: “The power of Christian Science and divine Love is omnipotent. It is indeed adequate to unclasp the hold and to destroy disease, sin, and death” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 412).
