“Where two or three are gathered together in my name”
A while back, I woke in the middle of the night; my breathing was difficult, and I had sharp chest pains. One of my daughters was still awake and sitting on the couch in the living room. I opened the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, which I turn to along with the Bible when seeking healing, and asked my daughter to read to me very slowly. She did.
As I listened to the words she read, the ideas they expressed quieted my fears, and I could feel God’s healing presence. The words were underpinned by biblical truth and filled with Christliness. It was the most precious time—two people earnestly turning to God together—and my body completely settled down. I thanked my daughter profusely and soon fell asleep. And that was the end of it. I was so grateful to have someone reading to me and praying with me through this experience.
How wonderful to know that when we are so afraid that we feel unable to pray or think clearly, we can turn to another to have them pray with us. It reminds me of these words of Jesus: “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20).
