I was introduced to Christian Science in 2011, and since then I have had many healings of physical challenges, relationship problems, and job-related issues by knowing my relationship to our Father-Mother God.

Years ago, in the hostel where I was living in India, whenever someone worshiped with incense, I would cry out, “Open the door, open the window,” as I suffered with allergies from smoke and the smell of incense. I would get symptoms similar to a cold. Besides this, I would also have the same symptoms while sitting in an air-conditioned room or vehicle. I’d faced this problem for many years. 

When I found out about Christian Science, I began to have faith that permanent healing from every problem is possible through prayer, so I decided to rely on Christian Science for healing. I asked a Christian Science practitioner for help, and she lovingly agreed to pray for me.

She asked me to pray with Hymn No. 144 from the Christian Science Hymnal regularly, and I was very inspired by the line, “In atmosphere of Love divine / We live, and move, and breathe” (H., adapt. © CSBD). I also read an article on JSH-Online.com titled “Say goodbye to allergies” (Gwen Beacham, Sentinel, June 23, 2007). Reading this inspired me to cherish the fact that God would never give any suffering to His beloved children. 

The practitioner also guided me to read “the scientific statement of being” from page 468 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and to understand the statement, “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter.” With these truths, I understood that we live in the atmosphere of Love, God, so how can anything other than Love govern us? I was learning that I am spiritual and that matter cannot dictate anything.

During a conversation with the practitioner, she also cleared up my thoughts by mentioning that incense is made for fragrance, and air conditioning is designed to make us comfortable, so then how can they harm us? It was the belief that incense and air conditioning cause allergy colds that was harmful. I needed to discard this belief and trust God for my health and comfort. 

I was grateful for church services conducted by the Christian Science Society I was attending, which provided me with fresh spiritual truths. That year, I was also appointed as a Sunday School teacher, and seeing the trusting reliance the children had on Truth, God, motivated me to be more childlike in trusting Him.

After praying for around one month I found that I was healed completely of the allergy colds. Now I understand very well that such a problem never existed; it was a belief only, and when I left this belief behind, I was healed.

I am deeply thankful to God for this healing. I also am grateful to the practitioner for her help. This and other healings inspired me to take Primary class instruction in Christian Science.
