Grateful for Christian Science
Originally published in Spanish
I became acquainted with Christian Science in 1974, through a friend who invited me to attend a church service. A few months later when I was newly married and it was the rainy season in Chile, my throat started to bother me. I couldn’t swallow, I couldn’t eat, and I had a fever. But I had Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
My husband asked a doctor to come to the house, and he prescribed several medications, including penicillin. However, I stored the medication away and said nothing. And I stayed in bed, reading and reading Science and Health. The chapter that caught my attention the most was “Science, Theology, Medicine.” I kept reading, and suddenly I realized that just as I didn’t need the medication, I also didn’t need to be in bed, and everything was healed in about three days.
This healing experience and many others have been part of my journey in studying Christian Science. I am very grateful for what I have learned from Christian Science practitioners and through my own study, especially because where I lived, there were no Christian Scientists near me. So, the Spanish Herald, and our textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health, helped me a lot. I’m very grateful for the knowledge I have acquired.
