Healed before a hike
This past summer, while on an outdoor adventure trip to Colorado in the western United States, my daughter and I planned on peaking a fourteen-thousand-foot mountain with a small group. We were both looking forward to the climb, since this would be the first time my daughter had peaked a mountain.
The day before the hike, I began to feel unwell. I immediately went to God in prayer, as I always do in times of need, and this verse from Psalms came to thought: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way” (37:23). I love the Bible and turn to it often for guidance and inspiration. Not sure at first if I should still go on with the hike, after reading this verse, I was confident that I would be led to do the right thing.
I prayed, affirming that I could hear and follow God’s guidance and not be influenced by human will or ego. I strove to give everything over to God and let Him take the lead. I also called a Christian Science practitioner for Christian Science treatment, and he shared with me this helpful statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, where she uses the term “Mind” as a synonym for God: “Mind’s infinite ideas run and disport themselves. In humility they climb the heights of holiness” (p. 514). This was a great reminder to me that rather than being helpless mortals, we are actually ideas of God, the one, infinite Mind—His limitless, spiritual creation.
