Love overcomes grief
After my wife passed on, I asked a Christian Science practitioner to support my prayers to more fully understand my wife’s complete, spiritual, eternal being. I felt at a loss, grieving and alone after many, many years of marriage, and I was not feeling very close to God.
Daily I studied the weekly Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly while Freddie, our charcoal gray cat, sat in my lap. I also prayed with ideas found in I John 4 and I Corinthians 13, which gave me a clearer understanding of love, as did Mary Baker Eddy’s spiritual interpretation of the twenty-third Psalm in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (see p. 578).
Then, early one morning while I was studying the Bible Lesson, a tangible feeling of love filled our home. I knew that this came from God, who is divine Love. I stopped and simply reveled in this experience, which was completely new to me.
