The art of stillness

We can each experience the presence of one God, our Father-Mother, who cherishes us and can be heard when we listen.

With the fast pace of modern-day society, humanity seems to have lost sight of what some consider an art: stillness.

We’ve become accustomed to the excitement generated by a swirl of information, a feast of daily on-the-go stimuli. But while new technologies have made it easier to be connected than in times past because of cellphones, smart watches, and other forms of technology—this raises significant questions. For example, has immersing ourselves in a steady stream of information and being constantly connected sometimes caused us to forgo stillness and the desire to listen to God? In my experience, communing with God is paramount to progress.

Throughout the Bible, many stories tell of victory over discordant situations with the deepening realization of God’s presence, love, and goodness. These accounts can impel us today to find a spiritual solution to poor health, uncertainty, fear, conflict—whatever is troublesome. In order to realize the divine influence of goodness and harmony, we need to tune in to what Mind (a synonym for God) reveals to us in consciousness and tune out whatever is ungodlike.
