Upward path
The upward path looks steep and long,
too hard to travel on one’s own;
a daunting way to parts unknown,
it seems so far to go.
Alone, each labored step we take
seems fraught with strife and bought with toil,
enough to make resolve recoil
and progress seem prolonged.
But when we walk our path with God,
each forward step His grace supplies,
and human tumult falls aside
for those who trust in Him.
Then we, supported by His might,
relinquish all our earthly weights
and find our way a heavenly state,
with Christ, our friend and guide.
For though the path seems steep and rough,
if we let Love’s arm lift us up
and bear us on to conquer fear,
we find God always, ever near.
