Pain and injury quickly overcome
A few years ago, as lumber was being delivered to our driveway, some of the logs shifted and fell onto my foot. My foot became inflamed and very painful, and I was unable to walk without crutches.
When my neighbor heard what had happened, she came over to see if I was all right and asked what pain medications I was taking. I told her I was not taking any medicine but rather praying, to which she replied, “You must have a high tolerance for pain.”
At first I thought, Yes, I do. I’m strong, and I can get through this. But then I realized that I needed to have zero tolerance for pain or any other discord. As I prayed, this statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy came to thought: “Your decisions will master you, whichever direction they take” (p. 392).
