Words are inadequate to express my everlasting gratitude for God’s perfect and unfailing love. One day while I was driving, I looked in my rearview mirror and saw a car bearing down on me at an extreme speed. Before I knew it, my car had been hit from behind and was being pushed into another lane. The first thought I had was that my car was going to flip over into the roadside ditch.
Ah! But God was right there. Understanding from my study of Christian Science that God is Life and that Life is All, I realized that God is also my life, and I started affirming that truth. Ultimately, the other car pushed mine just to the shoulder of the road, where I came to a halt before hitting the ditch. I believe that it was the impulse of God’s love that moved my car so gently to the side of the road and that kept both the driver of the other car and me from being injured.
Afterward, a sense of calm washed over me. The other driver told me that after working a double shift, she had fallen asleep at the wheel. I wanted her to know that I didn’t blame her. I told her I was fine and shared that I had been praying. (I had been listening to a recording of that week’s Bible Lesson found in the Christian Science Quarterly.) It was so clear to both of us that we had been protected and that there was no need for forgiveness. Though my car was totaled, the insurance process went smoothly, and I got a new car.
