Quick recovery after a fall

A few years ago I had an experience that proved to me the power of the living Word of the Bible and the fact of man’s inseparable relation to God. When I left for my usual early morning prayer and dog walk, it was still dark. As I was going through an area where there were no lights on the path, my dog was startled by something and pulled me off balance. I tripped, and fell heavily on my arm and shoulder.

I exclaimed out loud that all was well. It was tempting to wonder how and why this happened and what was next, but I have learned in Christian Science to take possession of every thought and immediately insist on my true status as God’s perfect spiritual idea.

A Bible passage came in an instant: “For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken” (Proverbs 3:26). This indicated the powerful spiritual fact of what was really going on right then and there—that my foot could never be taken out from under me. It completely refuted every opposite argument that presented itself, such as “The dog yanked the leash and pulled you off your feet,” and “The sidewalk was uneven, and you tripped.”
