A better basis
It was the end of a long, demanding day, and I was walking home in an ice storm, ruminating about being tired, wet, and cold. Then a thought, clearly coming from a completely different source than those mental grumblings, presented itself: “You don’t have to feel this way.”
It seemed I had every reason to sigh about my situation. But in that moment I saw that there was another option. I could consider what God was doing—not as a distant authority who might or might not care about what was going on where I was, but as present, active divine good, divine Love.
With that thought, I looked up and saw the icy rain stopping. The trees glittered in the street light. And suddenly I felt truly blessed to live in a world of such extraordinary beauty. When I got home, I felt refreshed, buoyant, and full of joy. I thought, I want more of this!
