Confident prayer
Praying with confidence means turning continually and joyously to God.
Praying with confidence in God’s infinite goodness and power opens the door to healing and progress. But what gives us this confidence that our prayers based on Christian Science can heal effectively?
The Bible’s timeless wisdom is illustrated by the examples of people who prayed with confidence in God’s great goodness and experienced healing in all kinds of situations. One account tells of a woman with a long-standing hemorrhage who approached Christ Jesus with an expectation of healing (see Matthew 9:20–22). The Bible records her as saying to herself, “If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.” Jesus responded, “Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.” And she was healed.
Jesus was so conscious of the ever-present operation of the divine laws of harmony, health, and holiness that he perceived the woman as the beloved and faith-filled daughter of our heavenly Father, divine Spirit, and thus already spiritual and complete, not material or sick. This spiritual consciousness was manifested in the woman’s experience as healing.
