Shining a light on the weekly Bible Lessons published in the Christian Science Quarterly®

God

Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.

A well-loved doxology, this verse is embedded in King David’s farewell to the Hebrew people at the end of his reign. David is especially joyful that God’s provision for the building of a temple includes generous contributions from the people (see vv. 6–9).

O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard: which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved. For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
