Freed from blaming
I went from wanting to leave this branch church to cherishing each spiritual quality my fellow members contributed to our precious church.
I feel deep humility and a profound love for Christian Science and my branch church as I share this experience.
Sometimes we find ourselves and those we love on opposite sides of an issue. A number of years ago, an issue arose in my branch church involving our musicians. Some felt it was time to seek a new soloist and a new pianist, and others, myself included, felt that it would be unloving to let our musicians go after so many years of devoted service. I wound up on the “losing” side of that decision. Boy, was I feeling both divided and fully justified in my feelings of outrage and disbelief that this church, founded on divine Love, could do something that I felt was so unloving.
My husband likes to quote the saying, “When we point a finger at someone, there are three pointing back at us!” I was certainly pointing a finger—and thus needing a healing solution to this inner conflict and turmoil. I knew I needed to get a clearer view of God’s love and care for each of His children, including not only our church members but also the musicians.
